GUIDED TOURS

Guided tours are available 7 days a week – at 11am and 2pm. Self-guided tours are available anytime.

Tours can be booked online here or , if you prefer, just come along on the day and pay at reception.

We’re currently operating summer opening hours, from 10am-5pm.

ADMISSION PRICES

Our ticket prices include a small voluntary donation — for less than the price of a cup of coffee, you’ll be supporting our charity’s work to preserve heritage for future generations.

If you’re a UK taxpayer, you can make your donation go even further by adding Gift Aid at no additional cost to you.

Visiting

Do I need to book a ticket in advance?

Booking a ticket in advance is recommended but you can also book when you arrive at the Museum.
What types of tickets do you have?

Exhibition and Guided Tour with Ex-Miner Guide: A guided tour of the Pit Head, recreated underground coalway and coalface. Experience the atmosphere and noise of a working pit with an ex-miner guide. Entry to our two exhibition floors.

Exhibition and Audio Tour (Self Guided): A self guided tour of the Pit Head, recreated underground coalway and coalface. Experience the atmosphere and noise of a working pit. Our guides will be available on route to provide additional information and answer questions. Entry to our two exhibition floors.

How long is the guided tour?

A guided tour normally takes around 1.5 to 2 hours.
How long is the audio tour?

A self guided tour normally takes around 45 minutes.
How much time is recommended for a tour and visit around the exhibitions and site?

We would recommend several hours to fully enjoy your tour, the exhibitions and the site of the Lady Victoria Colliery.
I can’t make my booked time. How do I rearrange/cancel my visit?

If you would like to cancel or rebook your ticket please call 0131 663 7519 or email reception@nationalminingmuseum.com.

Refunds can be processed up to 2 working days before date of entry.
I have a corporate membership or ASVA card. Do I still need to book a ticket?

Yes, please use our online booking system. Simply select the time you wish to visit and the FREE option for members/vouchers.

Please remember to bring your voucher/pass with you on the day for our staff to verify them.
